What is a Hellbender?
We’re glad you asked.
The Hellbender, our continent's largest salamander, is a fascinating resident right in our own backyard! Indigenous to the Appalachian mountains, the Eastern Hellbender can be spotted in the Doe River that flows nearby. Growing to an impressive length of over 2 feet, these elusive giants can truly astonish fortunate observers. Thriving in exceptionally clean water, they serve as a crucial indicator of river health. It is imperative to actively observe, conserve, and restore Hellbender habitats to ensure the preservation of the beloved mountains for generations to come.
