Learn to Fly Fish Class: @ Doe River Landing
This is an intro to fly fishing class
Designed to provide basic knowledge, hands-on experience, and understanding of essential gear to get you started fly fishing for trout in East Tennessee. This class will be held at Doe River Landing in Roan Mountain.
What You'll Learn
Fly Fishing Gear Basics: Overview of essential gear, including how to set up your rod, knots you'll need to tie, reel, line.
Styles: Learn the different types of fly fishing and which situations to use them (Dry Fly, Nymphing, Euro Nymphing, Streamer.)
Choosing Flies: Learn about fly selection and how to match flies to different fishing environments and seasons.
Reading Water: Gain skills in reading water patterns to identify prime fishing spots.
Technique: Learn how to properly cast, mend and most importantly fight/land fish!
Ethical Fishing Practices: Understand sustainable and respectful fishing techniques to preserve the ecosystem.
Class Details:
Guidance: Instruction from three Hellbender Certified Fly Fishing Guides.
Materials Provided: Includes a FREE complimentary pack of hand-tied flies, tippet, leaders,
PLUS: All participants are entered to win a free guided fly fishing trip for 2 with one of our quides!
(Rods, Reels, Waders, Nets and Packs are NOT provided. We encorage each participant to use their own gear to learn and understand how it operates)
Structure: 4-hour session with 1-2 hours of classroom instruction followed by 1-2 hours of on-the-water practice.
Participants: Limited to 15 participants for a focused and personalized learning experience.

Join us for our Earth Day Gear Swap, where we’re bringing the community together to give quality used gear a second life! Our mission has always been to keep great outdoor gear in use and out of landfills, and this event is the perfect way to do just that.
How It Works:
Free to shop! Anyone can come browse and find great deals on used gear being sold by individuals in our store.
20 tables available for sellers to set up their gear inside our store. (feel free to consolidate with friends you know to sell gear. If gear is too large for tables we can find space for it!)
Purchase a seller’s ticket to reserve your spot. Just $25!

Join us for four hours of community, adventure, and sustainability in downtown Elizabethton as we bring outdoor enthusiasts together to buy, sell, and swap gear. This event is all about keeping great equipment in use, supporting a sustainable economy, and connecting with fellow adventurers.

Backpacking in the Appalachian Mountains 101
Have you been wanting to learn the basics of backpacking in our region but feel overwhelmed by all the information out there? This class is for you. Led by seasoned hiker and backpacker Charles LePort, this session will help you cut through the noise and focus on the essentials of backpacking in East Tennessee.
What You'll Learn:
This 2-hour session covers the fundamentals of backpacking, including:
Trip planning and preparation
Choosing the right backpack and gear
Sleeping systems and campsite setup
Hydration and water purification
Food and meal planning
Navigation and technology
Safety and backcountry awareness
Optional Overnight Trip
For those who want to put their skills to the test, there will be an option to join an overnight backpacking trip led by Charles.
